Who We Are
Austin UPA is a local chapter of the Usability Professionals Association (UPA). We are a volunteer-run organization with the goal of providing educational and networking events for usability, interaction design and user experience professionals.
Are there dues?
At this time, we do not charge chapter dues. We depend on and encourage the UX community to participate to chose topics, provide meetings locations and take part in lively banter discussions.
We do try to provide local benefits for those that are members of the larger, international organization – Usability Professionals Association (UPA). For example, we host Table-4-Eight dinners occasionally and offer first dibs on the seats to UPA members.
What is UPA?
The Usability Professionals’ Association (UPA) is an international professional organization that supports people who research, design, and evaluate the user experience of products and services. Austin UPA is a local chapter of this organization.
The UPA’s goals are to:
- Become the authoritative source on the practice of usability, user-centered design (UCD), and user experience (UX).
- Facilitate professional development and education within the UX field.
- Promote the business value of user experience, research, design and evaluation to business and other entities.
- Foster a community of user experience professionals through knowledge sharing and networking.
Membership in UPA
UPA offers membership to anyone who researches, designs and evaluates the user experience. To join the international organization, fill out the membership form and submit the appropriate dues amount ($100 for professionals plus $25 new member processing fee, $35 for students).
